2024-25 Weekly Games
COMO BC March 25
Well the end of our weekly games was upon us and we went to one of the nicest clubs in WA and took on Como BC. Another perfect night was on hand to enjoy the grass which is always beautifully prepared by Dave Rhodes.
A sausage sizzle was prepared by the Como ladies and big thankyou goes out to them. I do have to say that it was the biggest sausage and boy was it tasty.. no comments please.
It was great to see Mal Kinnaird back for his bookend of a season due to health.
6 rinks took to the green and there was late minute chopping and changing. The game started with lots of laughs across the green. Luckily for us we all got off to a handy lead. Even though we were in front the Como team were unlucky across most with holes being found etc and some luck going our way.
In the end we won the evening with a fair margin with a couple of blow out rinks.
Our best performing rink was Dave Hitchman's with Kerry H, Rob and Harvey but only by one shot even though Tony did try his hardest.
Our wine giverawayerers was Mike Carey, Gaz, Leon and Mal Kinnaird.
S. Bermingham / M. Taylor / H. Arnott / W. OLIVE 27-10
H. Larson / R. Bellis / K. Hutchinson / D. HITCHMAN 34-4 (BEST RINK)

M. Kinnaird / L. Smith / G. Rowlinson / M. CAREY 14-13
BASSENDEAN BC March 18
Another prefect evening for us and another week closer to the Forster carnival. Bassendean is such a very welcoming club and always are glad to have us there. A great job done by Vice Captain Hollywood (Scotty) in organising the sausage sizzle before the game.
Quite a few of basso's top players were there on the green and this was going to be a good challenge for us.
The grass at Basso runs beautifully and there can be no excuses.
7 rinks took to the green with a good even spread of players. The game was fairly even across most of the rinks, with a blowout on rink 1 and 7 against the police, the competition was to see if Dave or Corny gave the wine away.
Phil Dobie's rink was flying out of the blocks and was balancing out the two other rinks almost.
In the end the Bassendean players got the better of us 116-103.
Phil, Humps, Rob and Tanya were the best performing rink.
Our worst and wine giverawayerers was again Corny, Mick T, Trev and Carolyn.
. Redden / R. Bailey / S. Bermingham / D HITCHMAN 15-21
T. Belcher / R. Bellis / J. Humpleby / P. DOBIE 22-11 (Best rink)
L. York / R. Hutchinson / T. Redden / A. BARTLETT 21-14
B. Little / M. Belcher / B. Bandy / M. CAREY 6-17
B. McCance / M. Booth / G. Rowlinson / T. KAY 20-10
(Basso) / L. Smith / A. Booth / W. OLIVE 9-18
C. Little / T. Evans / M. Taylor / I. CORNTHWAITE 10-25
Kalamunda March 11
An absolute fantastic evening was on the cards up the hill to the Kalamunda Cougars. This game is the home of Arthur and Wayne and Corny's ex club. The people are extremely friendly and the comradery is always great.
A number of the Cougars stars were in attendance but playing out of position, Billy Brandsma was playing two to his son Andrew who will be a definite star in the future.
7 rinks took the green and it ran beautifully. The game was a rough start for the police as the cougars jumped most rinks early. A fightback happened but in the end the cougars were just too strong for us. A couple of small blow out scores didn't help.
In the end our best performing rink went to Dave Hitchman' s crew of Ralph, Trev and Julie.
Our wine giverawayerers was one of our regulars Wayne Olive, Kerry H, Mark B and Bill. The group did have a lot of fun in that game and there were some bombs played.
A massive thankyou to the Kalamunda club for their hospitality and the spread of food after the game was sensational. Not often that there is any food left after a group of police have been in the house.
We only have two more games to go to complete our season and then our presentation evening before we head to northern NSW for the carnival and look dashing in our new uniforms.
Sorrento March 4
Well was starting feel like another MAry Poppins evening, the wind was quite fresh on arrival at the Sorrento BC. As usual Tuesday nights is great at this club as the atmosphere is very busy with a large contingent of community bowls all enjoying their bowls. Even moreso was the smile on Leon, Dave and Michaels faces as this is only a 30 minute trip. The closest game for the Yanchep boys.
It was also great to see our Captain Darren up in Perth and get the shoulders turning over.
As we are getting closer to our carnival, if possible teams will be placed into our sides teams.
The evening started out with a sausage sizzle provided from Sorrento and this as always is very much appreciated.
6 rinks each took to the grass which ran beautifully. The game was looking very close as always at the start to the middle of the competition. Most rinks were close or in front except for Joe's were getting behind a little.
As the evening progressed the police started to move further ahead and a number of rinks were trying to win the wine.
In the end our win was 5 rinks to Sorrento's 1, but again it is the comradery on the greens that is the most enjoyable.
Our wine giverawayerers was Joe, Arthur, Ron and Harvey.
The best performing rink for us was Tony, Mick Taylor, Wayne Molloy and Lesley. who snuck home to wine the fermented grape product.
Thanks again to Sorrento for having us and we look forward to Basso next week.
Scarborough Feb 25
"Wind in the East, mist coming in. Like something is brewin and about to begin. Cant put me finger on what lies in store. But I fear what's to happen, all happened before."
Like the quote from Mary Poppins the feeling at Scarborough was as above. Another cloudy with rain potential evening ahead, wind picking up.
As always a great welcome to the club by Scarborough members, sausage was done and great thankyou to the club. As this is the Redden and Robinson club we always enjoy our day there...at least some of us did..
A great game and a lot of fun was had across the rinks. A number of rinks had very comfortable wins for the police, we lost on three rinks with two close losses and one blow out loss.
Our best performing rink was Tony, Scotty, Ralph and Michael H. A great win for Tony who reversed last weeks result.
The reverse could be said for Corny's rink who gave the wine away quite convincingly this week.
The Police team took out the Trophy for the second year (as per Poppins, it has all happened before) with a score of 115-91.
Big thankyou for the nibbles and the purchases of the raffle tickets to Scarborough who took out both raffle prizes as well.
T. Evans / L. Smith / J. Humpleby / A. BARTLETT 20-8
T. Belcher / R. Bellis / D. Hitchman / W. OLIVE 11-12
H. Larsen / R. Hutchinson / T. Redden / P. DOBIE 25-11
M. Humphrey / R. Bailey / S. Bermingham / T. KAY 23-6 (best rink)
B. Little / M. Belcher / K. Hutchinson / P. WALKER 11-13
K. Rowlinson / Peter (Scarb) / B. Bandy / CORNY 10-28
C. Little / B. McCance / G. Rowlinson / M. TAYLOR 15-13
RSL Feb 18
Our yearly game with the RSL took place on a semi cool evening at the Yokine BC. We had the knowledge of the green having played there the week before. Well for some of us anyway.
The evening started with lots of banter, the ode and then to the green we took. 6 rinks each with a very good mix across the rinks. The RSL had some of their carnival teams together and were very strong and a couple of them were not so.
The aggregate scores as always were very even across the board and fluctated with each end, at one stage with about 4 ends to go we were 9 shots down on the aggregate.
Phil Dobies team were playing exceptional bowls and dominating their opposition. They were balancing out the Tony Kay team who were trying their hardest but the strong RSL team with state coach Prickles were getting the better of them.
Wayne Olives team playing against Blake Butler were behind for the evening but fighting gallantly to try stay in touch.
Cornys team got off to a flyer and once Darryl Radford and crew found their form it was a very tight game.
Paul walkers crew had a very even game against his opposition and was neck and neck all evening.
Arthur's team were playing good bowls and kept control in their game for the most part until the end were they were pipped at the post. They were the slowest and finished at least 15 mins after everyone else.
In the end we came out victorious with a 10 shot win 110 -100. We lost 4 rinks and won 2.
Our best performing rink was again Phil, he is getting a nice collection who played with Scotty Garry and Bill with a score of 39-5
Our wine giverawayerers were Tony, Dave, Ron and Harvey.
M. Wiltshire / R. Bailey / K. Hutchinson / A. BARTLETT 16-17
L. York / L. Smith / R. Bellis / P. WALKER 18-21
T. Evans / T. Belcher / B.. Bandy / I. CORNTHWAITE 21-11
K. Rowlinson / M. Belcher / M. Taylor / W. OLIVE 9-19
H. Larsen . R. Hutchinson / D. Hitchman / T. KAY 7-27
B. Little / G. Rowlinson / S. Bermingham / P. DOBIE 39-5 (Best Rink)
MACCABI Feb 11
Who would have thought that in the middle of Feb we would have had our hoodies on for the game. Dave even got his beanie out.
Well on this very fresh evening were the wind chill was very Antarctic we each had 6 rinks with only one triple group.
The game was a very tight affair from about halfway to three quarters. The police team then started to move away from the Maccabi team. In the end we won on all 6 rinks.
The worst winning margin (2 shots) and giving the wine away were Phil, Dave, Leon and Kerry (Maula) Rowlinson.
Our best rink for the night was Tony, Rob, Ron and Lesley.
Again the fellowship was tremendous across the greens and in the clubrooms after. Big thanks to Maccabi for putting on the nibbles after the game.
NORTH PERTH BC Jan 21
Well we set for one of our biggest turnouts for a while, but due to last minute withdrawals due to clouds and other reasons we ended up with 24 players to take on the mighty North Perth Bowling Club who's club teams are either 1st or2nd in every comp.
They were very pumped after winning last year and were all set to repeat. Onto the two greens we went, ran a little slow but for night bowls was fine. The dark clouds loomed in the distance with the odd bright flash of lightning.
It was a great competition and the scores were very tight throughout the game, i think with 5 ends to go on most rinks the agg was 4 in favour of WAPBC. MIke Taylors crew were playing great bowls, with Leslie demoralising poor number 44 David Wirrpanda and i am pretty sure Mick dropped some bombs.
The North Perth locals Tony Kay was having a tight tussle and Harry Arnott with Wayne Olive was starting to pull away from their opposition.
In the end we came out on top 114-97 to regain the Neville and Trixie PHILP Trophy.
Our best rink was Mick Taylor, Hollywood (Scotty), Ralph and Lesly winning by 16.
Our wine giverawayerers were Mike Carey, Ron H, Trev and Carolyn.
Following the game great fellowship was had and very big thankyou to North Perth for the burgers and the many donations to Legacy.
SWAN Jan 7
We seem to be blessed this year with the weather, hopefully haven't jinxed it now. But we come to one of the four oldest bowling clubs in WA, but the only one still on its original site to challenge Swan for the Rowlinson Family Trophy. This year our Rowlinson membership grew by one with Kerry joining Rowlo, Darren and Dylan.
After the festive break, Swan struggled with numbers for the day and big thankyou to Midland Morrison and others to filling the void. We had 23 players so 6 rinks took to the slowish Swan greens but they ran nicely.
Swan provided a sausage sizzle for the players prior to the game and big thankyou goes out to Kortzy and the rest of the group for their fellowship.
The game was fairly tight early on and then a couple of rink blowouts in our favour got us across the line. We had 50% of the Rowlinsons playing with Garry and Kerry there.
In the end WAPBC won the day 106-74 and Brooke Rowlinson gave a speech on behalf of the Rowlinson family and presented the Rowlinson Family Trophy to Rob Bellis.
Our best rink was Phil Dobie, Dave Hitchman, Rob Bellis and Ralph Bailey.
Our worst rink who drew their game was none other than Wayne Olive, Humps, Trev Evans and Kerry Rowlinson.
FESA Nov 19
What another tremendous turnout for a bad weather evening, fortunately we where under the cover at Innaloo, 30 players turned up, we got a spare from FESA to make numbers even.
It was quite a close game for most of the evening, with the FESA crew getting the advantage towards the end. We ended up winning two rinks and lost the trophy for the first time since 2015.
Our best performing rink was Phil, both Hutchinson's Kerry and Ron and Bill.
Great comradery again on the night and look forward to regaining the trophy next year.
BELMONT BC Nov 12
After a few years absence we returned to Belmont Bowling club to play for the Jim THOMPSON Trophy. It was an absolute pleasure to see Jim there in attendance, not bowling this night. I could not believe my eyes as it appears he has not aged a single day since the old Midland Police Station days.
On a beautiful evening with slight breeze that did have a bit of chill factor to it we took to the new synthetic. The comradery was excellent across all the rinks with a few pulling out of the Belmont team at the last minute.
In the end our only rink that lost was the Rowlinson Rink with the newest adopted member into the family of Paul Walker ROWLINSON. Their game was close but a few scores on the final ends got the home team on the plus side.
A couple of the rinks had a rather significant win and there was only a shot between our two best rinks. In the end the best rink was Tony K, Mick T, Ron H and Trev E. Well done gentlemen.
A big thankyou to the hospitality of the Belmont BC and the putting on of the sausages after the game. Look forward to next year.

GOSNELLS BC Nov 6
Cancelled due to Gosnells having the wrong date.
PERTH TATTS BC October 29
What a glorious night we had, hot day lead to a Perfect evening. We welcomed back Mick Taylor after his long caravanning trip across the north of WA. He now rivals Brett for the small/medium shirts.
6 rinks took on Tatts spread on two greens. Which were very green and slow, 10 seconds. As I was on the other green it was hard to say what went on but could see Tony K's rink bounding ahead.
On b green two different games were going on. Dave's team were trying their hardest to save their pants with 16-0 down with 5 ends to go. Cornys rink the opposite getting out to a good lead then the opposition came back.
In the end we won 4 rinks to 2. Winning overall on the aggregate, 99-86.
Our wine giverawayerers were Dave's team.
Our best rink was Tony K's.
Wayne O, Kerry H, Mark B,Trev 18-13

Corny, Garry, Peter, Harvey 19-12.
LEEMING BC October 22
Whenever you head to Leeming you expect the wind to be blowing and it had a rather fresh bite to it. I think the temp was about 14 but felt like 9. A few toupee's were lost and a number of beanies worn. It is a great day for the Police and a lot of rivalry as we do have a decent contingent of Leeming Bowlers amongst us, with Rob, Phil and the Belchers to name a few to take on their clubmates.
Leeming decided to create a super team and put 4 of their 1 white players together, much panic this caused to a few of the police faithful, but between Scotty and Corny we knew we could manage this with our playing stock.
6 rinks took to the green and the scores as usual were quite even early on, the Leeming super rink took on Corny's team and was a very hard game, the draw game of the Leeming front end was very consistent. Tanya Belcher leading really played out of her skin and kept it tight and Rob Bellis played some crackers against his team mates to not let them get too for in front.
In the end the rink wins were shared with 3 each but our losses were smaller than our wins so we triumphed only just over the Leeming crew.
Our best performing rink was Phil Dobie, Jenni Rogalski, Leon Smith and Trev Evans
Our gallant wine giverawayerers Corny, Rob, Ron and Tanya.
WAPBC 92 (3 rinks)
Leeming 84 (3 rinks)
B. BANDY, J. Humpleby, P. Rogalski, J. Mawson 13-15

W. OLIVE, D. Hitchman, J. Fielder, R. Bailey 14-15
ROSSMOYNE BC October 16
The weather had turned bad just in time for us to play in one of our undercover facilities. Rossmoyne again provided a great welcome to their facilities and provided a sausage sizzle for us on arrival, a huge thanks to the club. We welcomed back Rick Hutchinson for his first game back with the club.
Rossmoynes numbers were 36 prior to the event and some great rustling up by Vice Captain Scott Bermingham we managed to get 32 players. What a terrific turnout for the second time this year, we had 32 for the pairs as well. 8 rinks took to the blue carpet and what a great tussle it was across all the greens. You could not get a better even match on all rinks, with about 4 to go on most rinks the score was either even and the biggest blow out was 4 shots.
In the blink of an eye the scoreboards turned over and on 4 rinks we were 7 down on each, which at that time gave the River rats a 16 shot lead.
Some gallant fight back and in the end the last 1/3rd gains by Rossmoyne saw them win overall by 8 shots.
Our wine giverawayerers were new Skip Ty Vandetogt, Julie Fielder, Leon and Ralph.
Our best performing rink was by the none other Wayne (who either wins or loses, no in-between) Olive, and his team of Hutchinson's, Rick and Ron and the other Rick with a silent P, Scupham. The boys did give away a 7 as well.
K. Rowlinson – P. Clifford – W. Molloy – T.KAY 12-18

J. Mawson – T. Belcher – J. Humpleby – I. CORNTHWAITE 20-14
ELLENBROOK Sept 25 Peter WALSH Trophy
It was a another fantastic evening to attend Ellenbrook to play for the Peter WALSH Trophy. For those that are new to our club Peter was a long time member and was the President of our bowling club for quite a few years before Rob. Peter has been a member of Ellenbrook (Valley) BC since its inception. Peter is also a Life Member of our club.
We had 24 players, Ellenbrook a well supported club had 30 players. With the excesses we had an Ellenbrook team play for us. This year we made sure that was an even contest. This was the first game managed by our Vice Captain Scott ;'Hollywood' Bermingham. After a rough start we took to the greens.
The game was fairly even across the greens early, the police team took the ascendency on all but 2. This continued till the end. Great comradery was again evident on all rinks with lots of cheer and banter,
Our wine giverawayerers was Corny, Wayne Molly, Kerry Carey, Ralph Bailey, who were outplayed.
Our best scoring rink was Wayne Olive, Scott Bermingham, Brett McCance, Trev Evans.
Thanks to Ellenbrook for a great night, food after the game and the police to win back the Peter Walsh Trophy.
PAST PRESIDENTS Sept 17
We took the greens to play the Past Presidents and as usual at this time of year numbers were short. PP's could only gather 18 and we had 21, so a big thankyou to Kerry Carey for player for the PP's, and she bowled well too.
On a lovely evening we had five rinks each. The game was played in tremendous spirits and was fairly tight going to about the midway point in the game. We won on three rinks and had an aggregate of 97 to 84.
Our wine giverawayerers were Mike Carey, Ron Hutchinson, Rick Scupham and Ralph Bailey.
Our best rink was Tony Kay, Peter Rogalski, Egon and Trev Evans who were neck and neck with Corny but some big scores towards the end they streaked away.
Thornlie BC Sept 10, Peter Ball Trophy
A complete change in the weather from last week, as the day was sunny and got passed 20 degrees. A perfect evening ended up a little fresh as the slight easterly had a very cold desert feel. Again the hospitality of this club is second to none. A sausage sizzle was provided before the game and nibbles provided after the game. A big thankyou goes out to Lesley York for organising this.
6 rinks from each club took to the best green i have played on in many a year, plus it was the first time in a long time that there was minimal wind there. At the end of the contest we were split 3 rinks each, With an aggregate score of 102 - 87 in the favour of police.
Peter Ball was a serving officer that tragically lost his life in the service of his duty. Brad, Peters brother spoke about how good a sportsman Peter was in his early days, with his love of triathlons and the borrowing of Brads bike. Brad on behalf of Lesley and family presented the Peter Ball Trophy to our President Rob Bellis.
Our best performing rink this week were Corny, Ty, Bill and Julie Fielder a big change from the week before, it must have been the introduction of Julie.
Our wine forfeitures this week were Paul, Gaz, Carolyn and Rob.
South Perth BC Sept 4
It was a miracle that we even got part of a game in. The weather was treacherous all the way up to about 5.15pm. But then the calm came. South Perth provided hamburgers prior to the game with a big thankyou going out to Ryan Havercroft and his team there.
6 rinks took to the lightning fast greens alongside the RSL who had 6 rinks on the other green. We only managed to get 5 ends in before the heavens opened up. The match was abandoned. Further comradery was enjoyed within the clubroom.
Wine winners were Keith Guelfi, Alan and Marg Booth ( who technically only played two ends due to their forgetfulness) and Peter Rogalski. The won the wine as they were the only team to be drawing at the abandonment.
The wine giverawayerers was Corny, Ty, Bill and Brett who played a red-hot Ryan Havercroft group.
We look forward to the return these greens at the Christmas singles.
